WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Accessibility Statement

The Dogeared Nook is committed to making our website usable and welcoming for everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology.

Our commitment

We believe everyone should be able to browse the shelves, whatever tools they use to get online. We work to remove barriers and to keep improving the experience for all of our readers.

Conformance target

This site is designed and tested to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and by accessibility law in many regions.

What we've done

  • Semantic structure with landmark regions and a “Skip to content” link
  • Full keyboard operability, with a clearly visible focus indicator on every control
  • Color contrast that meets AA (4.5:1 for text) across every color theme on the site
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers
  • Respect for the “reduce motion” setting — animations pause for those who prefer it
  • Layouts that reflow cleanly from desktop down to small phones, with no loss of content

How we test

We assess this site with automated tooling (axe-core) and manual review, including keyboard-only navigation and screen-reader spot checks. This statement was last reviewed in August 2026.

Found a barrier? Tell us.

If any part of this site is hard to use, we want to hear about it and we will prioritize a fix.

Ongoing effort

Accessibility is a continual process, not a one-time task. Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. We review the site regularly and welcome your help in finding anything we've missed.
